Our Lung Formula is a lung tonic and immune support, and may be helpful for a broad spectrum
of lower respiratory infections and inflammation-related respiratory conditions. Lung Formula supports the body's natural defense, by combining healing herbs to support healthy immune function and to maintain a healthy respiratory tract. Osha Root is one of the best American herbs for lung and throat infections. It stimulates the macrophages (white blood cells) in the lungs, calms a sore throat, assists in expectoration and helps one to breathe more deeply. As Osha Root brings more blood into the lungs, it assists in dilation when constricted. Lomatium is used in Native American medicine for lung health, and is often combined with Osha.
Elecampane has long been valued as a respiratory tonic herb. It has a warming effect on the lungs,
soothes the bronchial tube linings, and gently stimulates the coughing up and clearing of mucus from the chest. Elecampane is mildly bitter, helping recovery by improving digestion. Elecampane helps fight some infections, including MRSA, and works well with infection fighting herbs such as Oregon Grape. Oregon Grape, a berberine, stimulates the immune system, reduces bronchial constriction, helps clear infection metabolites from the body, soothes and strengthens mucous membranes.
Reishi mushroom is a powerful immune support, and is particularly beneficial to the respiratory
system. In one study, ove 2000 people in China with chronic bronchitis took reishi syrup. Within two weeks, 60 to 90% felt better and reported an improved appetite, according to "Medicinal mushrooms," by Christopher Hobbs, published in Herbs for Health in 1997.
Lung Formula is low in phenols, good tasting and safe for children and may be used long-term.
For acute lung infections, dosage may be doubled. Please consult a knowledgeable herbal practitioner as needed.

Dosing Ideas:
Since we're trying to warm and relax
the lungs with Lung Formula, it's nice to incorporate some steam and heat.
We find that putting Lung Formula in
a half cup of very warm water makes it nice to sip, and really warms us up inside. If you'd like it to be sweeter, stir in a little honey, for extra antibacterial support, or agave nectar, if you prefer it. Honey is not recommended for infants under twelve months old. |
